Damon G. Tyner

Damon G. Tyner, Esq. is the Managing Member of The Law Offices of Damon Damon G. Tyner, LLC, an Atlantic County based law practice.

He served as the 29th Atlantic County Prosecutor from March 2017 until July 2021. He served as a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey having been appointed by the Governor in June 2014. Tyner served in the Chancery Div.-Family Part from July 2014-February 2016. He was assigned to the Criminal Div. from March 2016-March 2017, until he resigned in good standing to become the Prosecutor.

Tyner served as a Judge in the Office of Administrative Law from June 2012 until June 2014.

As Prosecutor, Tyner was the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the county, overseeing 17 municipal law enforcement agencies. Under his direction, the office solved numerous “cold cases”, i.e. the murder of prominent local radio host April Kauffman. His detectives seized the largest quantity of drugs in the County’s history in July 2021. Tyner was instrumental in forming a solid bond between the community and law enforcement. He led the agency during a tumultuous period which included social/criminal justice reform in the George Floyd era and the global COVID pandemic. Tyner was influential in deciding to prosecute drug overdoses as homicides through the Drug Induced Death statute and implemented several social justice initiatives.

Tyner has widespread experience with assisting private industry navigate the political and regulatory obstacles in Atlantic City. Tyner has widespread experience with real estate development, land use matters, municipal law and education law. He served as a City Solicitor, School board solicitor, and labor counsel to various public entities.

As Prosecutor, Tyner was recognized as Prosecutor of the Year by the NJ Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Region II. He was featured in the 2007 Edition of NJ Super Lawyers – Rising Stars. In 2006, he served on the Revitalizing New Jersey Communities Committee of Gov. Jon Corzine’s transition team. In 2004, he was named to the NJ Law Journal “40 Under 40” list, honoring the top 40 attorneys under the age of 40 in New Jersey. In 2003, he was awarded the Hon. Benjamin A. Rimm Award, presented annually by the Atlantic County Bar Association to a young attorney committed to the legal profession and community. He was named to the Atlantic City Weekly/Greater Atlantic City Jaycees Top 40 Under 40 list. Tyner received the Judge Herbert Jacobs Award from the African-American Male Conference in 2002.
